Shopping for a watch snob

My husband loves watches and for birthdays, Christmases etc I always consider buying him a new watch as I know he will be delighted.

However, buying Vlad a watch is not as easy as you might think because he is very picky when it comes to timepieces. Here are his requirements which usually drive me around the bend!

Blue watch face

Vlad is very particular about the aesthetics of any watch he wears and this starts with the watch face. It has to be blue or he’s simply not interested! Luckily there are some places that offer personalised watches for him where you can choose the colour of the watch face for a functional and personalisable accessory.

Non pointy hands

For some reason my husband hates watches which have pointed hands. Most watches have pyramid style triangular tips to their hands and those simply won’t do. They have to be round or flat. No points!

Not too big

Most men’s watches out there today are chunky and made to look very masculine which is great but if a watch is huge it’s bound to get caught and damaged easily. For Vlad a watch must be no bigger than 43mm so that it comfortable sits on his wrist and doesn’t get in the way. Check out this great guide for selecting the right watch size for you here.

No numbers or numerals

Yes, that’s right. My husband doesn’t like a watch to have numbers or numerals on its face for telling the time. Sometimes I think he should just strap a sundial to his wrist! Luckily he is willing to accept dots as a way of time notation.

Material

When it comes to the material the watch strap is made from Vlad has tried and tested a few different options including the classic metal strap and fabrics. He has found that he prefers a leather option for comfort and breathability.

Do you have a watch snob in your life? I’d love to hear what their requirements are!

A watch is something you wear every day for many years, so I can understand being particular and getting just what you want. Mich x

Great tips here! My husband is a bit of a watch snob and I always worry I’ll get it wrong. Good advice!

I’m quite fussy when it comes to watches, Steve is not though. I completely understand knowing exactly what you want though.

My boyfriend is a watch snob in as far as he likes really good brands. For a work watch it doesn’t matter but for a dress watch he prefers mechanical watches as he doesn’t have to worry about a battery then x

I think most men can be fussy when it comes to watches. My husband was the same and it took me a while to find him a watch that he loves. But he wasn’t as specific with the watch face as your husband. Lovely watch mind!
