Getting Green Thumbs with VegTrug

It is so lovely to be able to look out into my garden and see all manner of plants growing, flowers blooming and wildlife popping in for a visit. When we first moved into this house I wanted to start growing my own vegetables and herbs and I got as far as planting the seeds but I have to admit I ended up forgetting about the patch and now it’s a bit of a mess – although there is still some determined mint, coriander and parsley growing through the weeds!

I recently decided that I was ready to try again, this time I am resolute to keep on top of my plants and keep them in check so I could harvest my own veggies and herbs throughout the year. One of the barriers to maintaining the first patch was the drag of having to get down on my knees or lean over to work on it which was tiring.

So when I came across the VegTrug I was super excited as it offered the perfect solution; a raised bed which would make maintaining it much easier. I found the best VegTrug (medium) deal on Amazon and was happy to see that it had next day Prime delivery.

The Medium Wooden VegTrug (183x76x80cm) is a raised planter which acts as a space-saving growing solution. It can grow up to 30 salads and vegetables! It is described as holding about  7 (60L) bags of compost although we added 9 to get it full right to the top. It arrived in a single box and was easy (although a little time consuming) to put together using the instructions and screws included, although I am grateful that my handy husband was the one in charge of the build!

My VegTrug is made from sustainable sources, is treated with food safe preservative and comes complete with a purpose-built replaceable fitted membrane liner which keeps the compost in place but offering great drainage. It has been designed to reduce crop damage from slugs and other pests. The VegTrug creates the right environment to grow easily without the labour and setbacks I experienced before.

I have filled (probably overfilled!) my VegTrug with a variety of herbs and veggies with the addition of a couple of strawberry plants and some beautiful lavender from Castle Farm just down the road which has already been attracting the bees and smells awesome.

I award the VegTrug 5 out of 5 stars and am really looking forward to tasting my plants once they have had the chance to grow, nothing can beat the satisfaction you get when you able to pick and eat your very own produce!

This looks great for anyone wanting to grow their own produce without having to get down on hands and knees to tend to plants (and weeds!). Yours looks lovely with all those plants and herbs. How exciting – I’m looking forward to hearing how you get on!

That trug looks so useful! It must be good for keeping the slugs away. They eat everything I try to grow. The kids were so upset yesterday when they saw that all the strawberries had been devoured.

I’ve not looked into a raised planter and this would be perfect for my small garden. What a space saver! It’s great that it can hold so many different veggies! I might have to order this and get my husband to build it ; )

This is such a good idea for those with smaller gardens! Will look at getting one of these as I want to start growing veg with my son

This sounds like a great solution for my garden as well. Because I have a pool, most of the ground is tiled and I have to keep my vegetables in pots. I could however find space for this raised planter and get all my herbs in it.

That looks great, I always say I’m going to sort my garden and grow my own fruit, and every year it inevitably doesn’t happen.

We’ve got one of these and I absolutely love it. It’s got a bit worn now after a few years so I’d love to get a new one and love the look of this long version!

This trug sounds a great solution for a lot of gardens and I love that it means no bending too. It looks gorgeous all planted up. It must be amazing to be able to nip out to the garden for a clipping of whatever you need for that days meal.
