Go Minimal With Your Decor In Five Steps

January 29, 2022 in Home & Garden - Micaela

When we decorate our homes we choose the styles that help us to express ourselves. Over the last few years, minimalist design has become incredibly popular. To go minimal with your decor today, consider these five steps.

1 . Simple abstract art

To decorate your home in a minimal style, go for simple and abstract art pieces. Choose no more than two art pieces per room, and pay attention to how much space you have. When creating a minimalist look, the key is to create a beautiful space, using simple design work.

When you’re choosing artwork you might like to ‘test out’ what it looks like in your home. To help you out, try virtual reality apps like Wall App or Satchi Art.

2. Neutral colour schemes

Creating a minimalist home is about using neutral tones. Use shades like beige, cream, grey, black or white. You should use only two or three colours in each room, and keep patterns simple. To inspire your minimal decor, there are a few podcasts which may come in handy:

3. Declutter your home

One of the most important steps to creating a minimalist home is to declutter. You’ll need to sort through all your possessions and figure out what you no longer need. When you’re deciding what to throw away, try to be honest with yourself. If there are items that you never use, or items that are worn out, these can definitely go! You can use recycling practices and pre-loved apps to get rid of your old belongings.

Perhaps you want more space but you’d like to hold onto your possessions? Under these circumstances, you may want to look into storage prices. There are plenty of self-storage companies that offer affordable packages.

4. Less of everything

Minimalism means ‘less is more’. To create a minimalist home, you’ll have to prioritise a small number of objects and possessions. Here are a few pointers to help you do so:

  • Only purchase furniture items that you need.
  • Choose only a few simple art pieces.
  • Take advantage of smart storage, to maximise floor space.
  • Be mindful about what you buy, think carefully before you commit.

5. Use nature

Plants are the best decor item for a minimalist home, using indoor plants you can create an inviting and beautiful space, using natural touches. Remember, don’t choose too many plants for each room. Minimalism is all about creating a simple design and removing clutter.

Think carefully about the size of each plant, and how much space you have to work with. If you don’t have much free time you might prefer plants that are easy to look after.

Using these tips you’ll create a minimal home that you can be proud of. There are so many ways to make the most of your home.
