4 Alternative Solutions for Common Household Problems

August 22, 2022 in Home & Garden - Micaela

Your house is your well-oiled machine. With busy schedules, falling into a strict cleaning routine for your home is essential. You have no choice. Between taking the children to school and going to work, routine is the only way to keep everything in order.

When you are caught up in the business of life, little household problems can be magnified easily. More often than not, the resolution can be found in your cupboard! Let’s look at some easy home remedies;

Bugs

Flies, ants, and mosquitoes get everywhere. There are some natural and often great smelling solutions to keeping bugs away that don’t involve constantly killing them.

Long-standing bodies of water in any part of your home are a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Should you have any water features in your home, filtering systems and covers will keep them from breeding there.

Homes with lots of greenery are beautiful, but attract insects. To stop them from entering your home, strong natural smells are a great alternative to toxic sprays. Lemon, peppermint, and cinnamon are natural insect repellents that don’t damage the environment. By placing oil burners around your home, the insects will stay far away, and your home will smell fresh!

An alternative is to mix these with vinegar for a stronger combination. Spraying surfaces and entrances with any of these will stop bugs from entering your home.

Grease

Tough grease is the enemy of any family cook. When left for a long period of time, the layers of grease are seemingly impossible to remove.

After cooking, take a cloth soaked in hot water and wipe down your frequently greasy areas. This will remove any grease during your meal preparation.

For long-term grease build-up, putting baking soda and lemon directly onto the area creates a chemical reaction that cuts through the layers and leaves it with a shine after scrubbing.

Smells

Shoes, garbage, bathrooms – life smells! Before you grab the air refresher, there are natural, budget-friendly alternatives to try out.

Shoes left at the door create a strong smell as you enter your home. Making a spray of tea tree oil and water will change this. By spraying inside all of the shoes, the tea tree will soak in and dissolve the smell. It’s best to keep the spray bottle at hand for regular use.

The smell of garbage is the bane of all homeowners’ lives. No matter how many times you rinse it out, the smell lingers. Cleaning with vinegar and lemon cuts into the old dirt and the smell, removing it much faster than chemical alternatives.

Blockages

The slow draining of water brings up a feeling of dread. Before it gets any worse, blocked drains require a phone call to your local plumber. However, you now have a selection of home remedies to try.

If you suspect that it might be grease, baking soda, lemon, and hot water will cut through the grime. For any other clogging suspects, baking soda and vinegar should do the trick. When your home solutions don’t work, then it’s time to give them a call!

Finding creative solutions for household problems can add a little fun into your daily chores – and they often smell great! These tips are just the beginning of home remedy solutions to get you and your family thinking about household problems differently.
