3 things to do on a romantic weekend in Cheshire

February 5, 2024 in Dating, Travel - Micaela

Known for its open green spaces, sweeping viewpoints, vibrant towns and villages, and the historic city of Chester, Cheshire offers a multitude of options for those looking to spend some time with someone special during a romantic weekend.

Cheshire boasts a range of places to visit and things to do to suit every mood and budget. From relaxing spa breaks to help you chill out to exploring the charms of Cheshire’s many local high streets offering everything from known brands and chic boutiques to independent hidden gems, and there are plenty of adventures to be had riding the waves, climbing the walls or roaring through the fields and getting up high in the trees or perhaps you prefer a little paddleboarding down the Dee? These are my top 3 dating picks!

Walk the Walls

Chester city walls comprise the most complete Roman and medieval defensive town walls in Britain, covering over 2.2 miles and is a major tourist attraction for visitors to the city. The Walls boast medieval archers and the elegant Georgian promenaders, with a variety of sights to see while you walk them including the Eastgate Clock, built in 1897 to commemorate the jubilee of Queen Victoria, the remains of a Roman amphitheatre, the tower where Charles I stood to watch the Battle of Rowton Moor, and Chester’s internationally renowned Racecourse. If you would rather have a guide on your Chesire dating experience there are guided tours that depart from the Town Hall Visitor Information Centre and are approximately 90 minutes in duration.

Picnic in the Park

If you’d prefer to stay in one place on your date why not take a basket of goodies and a blanket to Grosvenor Park? The park is a grade II* registered, green flag award-winning park dating back to 1867 covering 20 acres. Grosvenor Park is known as one of the best examples of Victorian parks in the UK and is a valuable open space for the local community, offering a wide variety of activities including the Activity Zone, The Lodge Café, Open Air Theatre and Miniature Railway. The park boasts formal avenues lined with trees, statues, large sweeping lawns surrounded with ornamental shrub beds and display beds that offer spectacular and colourful displays throughout the Spring and Summer months, the perfect time to organise your Cheshire dating trip.

Visit the Zoo

If you and your date love animals then why not head over to Chester Zoo? The Zoo boasts over 35,000 animals and 125 acres of zoological gardens to explore. From the critically endangered orangutans to the bouncing ring-tailed lemurs, lions of the savannah plains and a multitude of birds, reptiles and invertebrates there are plenty of amazing species to meet and learn about. If you want to try something really special why not book one of the experiences where you can get up close and personal with Komodo dragons, meerkats, butterflies, chameleons, penguins, elephants, giraffes, red pandas, rhinos and coming soon, even the lions! When you’ve finished your safari why not stop off at The Oakfield, a contemporary British pub serving freshly prepared locally sourced food and hand-picked beers, or why not treat you and your date to a dainty afternoon tea?
