Why I re-branded my blog

September 28, 2022 in Other - Micaela

You might have noticed that I recently re-branded my blog to Life in Lilac after nearly 6 years of being called Stylish London Living. I decided that it was time for a change. You may well be wondering what on earth persuaded me to make this change after such a long time and you’re right in thinking that there are many cons to doing this (as a digital marketeer I know these cons more than most!) so I wanted to explain why I did it.

Beginnings

When Stylish London Living first started in 2012 it was actually run by two people, myself and a friend. We decided we wanted to try out this blogging thing that was becoming so popular. Of course, we brainstormed some ideas for a name and wanted something that represented us.

My blogging buddy was going to focus her posts on fashion so that’s where Stylish came from, we were both living and working in London so that made sense and finally we wanted to have a lifestyle blog so that we were free to talk about any topics we fancied rather than being stuck in just one category, hence Living.

We worked together well for a few months, learning how to use WordPress and gaining confidence in our blogging skills. Unfortunately, our partnership was short-lived as my blogging buddy decided that she didn’t want to continue working with me on the blog and we went our separate ways. Of course, this left me with a blog with a name that we had created together that didn’t really represent me as an individual.

Changes

I decided to soldier on with Stylish London Living for 6 years, I am honestly not sure why I didn’t change the name of the blog the beginning, I guess I just wanted to focus on developing my skills and integrating into the blogging community. After a few years, the blog had started accumulating some decent stats and I knew that ultimately moving the blog would disrupt these stats so I continued on with Stylish London Living.

In 2015 my husband and I upped sticks and moved from our flat in Peckham, South East London, to live in the village where I grew up in Kent to live in my late Grandfather’s house. At the time my Grandfather was living in a care home and my mother wanted to rent out his house in order to help pay for his fees. I have nothing but fond feelings for our flat but it was getting a bit tight for us so having the chance to move to the beautiful Kent countryside to a home much bigger than our flat was very tempting!

So now, not only did the blog not represent me as an individual but it didn’t even represent where I lived anymore as I had moved out of London. I admit I felt a bit like a fraud keeping London in the blog name when we moved to Kent and I thought about changing the blog name back then but never got around to it.

Life in Lilac

I am not sure why I decided to bite the bullet now and re-brand the blog. I think I just got tired of using the old name which no longer meant anything and I wanted something which better represents me, spurring me on to create more interesting posts having gotten stuck in a content rut as of late.

I settled upon Life in Lilac simply because purple is my favourite colour, this is a lifestyle blog and I like a bit of alliteration! Yes, my blog’s stats will drop for a bit but it will soon pick up again as I work to build it up and make it stronger than it was before. So that’s the story of why I re-branded my blog. I hope you enjoy it!
