Ways to Make Your Child’s Bedroom Playful

Creating a fun, engaging bedroom for your child is easier than you think. It is possible to incorporate practical solutions with fun touches and stylish design to create a space with room to grow that you’ll love as much as they do. From making a dedicated arts and crafts area to a bed which includes a den and a gallery wall of artwork here are some top tips for making a playful bedroom for your children.

More than just a bed

Children have always loved Bunk Beds – and rightly so! Not only do they fuel the imagination but they offer a practical way of saving space, especially if the bedroom is shared between two children. From cool, contemporary bunk beds to traditional, stylish designs there are lots of options available. There are a few practicalities to consider when choosing bunks; the recommended minimum age for a child using a bunk bed is six and the top bunk mattress shouldn’t exceed 15cm in depth. Of course, make sure any bunk beds pass safety and quality standards.

Does your child love to make a fort or a den? Why not incorporate this into your child’s bed, offering a fun play area during the day and a comfortable place to rest at night. The Children’s Bed Shop steens midsleeper with tent comes in a few different colour options and offers an enclosed tent space beneath the bed for play activities. Decorate with pretty bunting to boost the camping theme.

Physical Activities

Does your child love being active? Give them an area in their room where they can swing, pound, roll, spin and run a little by incorporating playground elements. Why not set up an indoor swing or a small trampoline? A foldable gymnastics mat and a selection of balls and equipment will help your child develop hand-eye coordination and improve their orientation. With only a small effort you can set up a bedroom space dedicated to dancing and morning exercises so your kids can improve their balance and burn off a little energy!

Personal touches

Keep up with your child’s interests for decoration ideas and find inspiration from their favourite toys or activities. If they do not play with dolls or dinosaurs anymore, it is time to switch to some other toys, games or even some interesting and educational books. Try a bookshelf which shows off the book covers rather than the spines for added interest.

Always try to reflect their passion and always keep them interested. Create a calming corner for when they want some peace and quiet rather than running around and playing, colourful cushions and pillows where they can enjoy a few moments to themselves. Build up a gallery wall for your children’s art as they grow up. Put drawings and paintings in simple frames and see your child’s face light up as you create a personal gallery wall.

Creativity

I have always been creative, even when I was a child so I love the idea of setting up a creative space in a child’s bedroom to encourage them to use their imagination. Set up a craft space in the room with a table and art supplies, hang a cork or peg board up to attach artwork to or use to hang storage holders such as colourful wire baskets and cup containers. A good tip is to use different levels and put the everyday stuff down low and store the messier stuff up high. Use chalkboard paint on the walls to create a space where children can be free to draw on them as much as they want!

Reserve one corner of the room for a dress-up station for pretend play complete with a fort or tent. Set up a small imaginary stage for concerts and provide a selection of instruments. Bring creativity into the room by painting the space in vivid colours or use playful wallpaper that can positively affect your child’s mood.
