Remodelling a house is no easy task. It requires planning, layouts, budget scheme and many other things. If you want to remodel your house the right way then you must know the answers to questions listed below.

What’s the weather going to be like?

Always pay attention to the weather while remodelling your home because, believe me, overcharged bills and mud is the last thing you would want to deal with. You should start the work by August or September to the least, this way you will get your kitchen done by the winter holidays.

How much time do remodels take?

It could take a couple of days or even months to get your remodelling along with all the necessary inspection, permissions, custom cabinets and further authorization processes. Since this procedure varies with cities, therefore, it could either be time-consuming or could be completed in no time at all. To avoid late completion of work, start the project early and stick to the schedule, it will help you to be flexible about the deadline.

How much time will your materials take to arrive?

If you really want to stock your home with the finest Italy tiles or import materials from China or the best flooring material then stretch your legs and sit idly in your home for three months straight, because materials, when ordered, take a longer period of time which can also affect the project work. Consult your builders when you are searching for your home material because they probably have more knowledge about it. Laminate flooring must be your first choice because it seems almost indistinguishable from the original material, therefore, consuming less time.

Where will you stay and for how much time?

This is a pretty serious question for the folks who are practically walking around homeless, thanks to remodelling. Don’t even think about staying at hotels, it could take you off the budget, and living with your parents might be challenging. You can rent a house for as long as your home will take to get remodelled. Staying with your friends and family for a shorter period of time is completely okay, but if your project work extends to nine-month duration then renting a one-bedroom place is the only option!

Where will you cook food?

You are going to face a ton of problems that you probably have never imagined in your life including cooking, doing dishes and other inconvenient stuff. If you buy a microwave or a toaster oven or place a grill outdoor then you will get through most of the meals but if you like fully cooked scrumptious food then you have to keep a good budget because you will be eating out a lot.

Where will you go to the bathroom?

Looking for a bathroom that is clean and fully functional while your entire home is hammered down by the workers is a pretty scary thing to imagine, which is why you need to find a solid solution for this problem. A £80 rent for bathroom per month is not that bad, you might want to consider it.

If you have personal issues like you are a pretty lazy person that gets offended by the unpleasant sounds of hammer and other equipment, you should talk to your contractor and settle things midway.

Ha, we had our kitchen re-done in October. It made the house so cold having all the windows and doors open!

I think weather is a key thing that many of us forget – we had an extension done in the spring and just presumed it would be fine, but of course, it snowed! Chaos x

Ooof, I can imagine remodelling being so stressful. I live in a new build so I’ve got no plans to remodel but I’m looking to move into an older property in the future so it’s always on the horizon.
